Commercial Analysis
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UXhqx2F2C8I For my speech, I chose to to use a St. Jude commercial where they had celebrity endorsements by Jennifer Aniston, Jimmy Kimmel and others. The purpose of this commercial was to play with the audiences emotions in order for them to gain support for this cause. In order to do this, the authors used a great deal of pathos in order for the audience to feel sympathetic for not only the children going through this but, also the families and how they are affected. In the commercial they included real kids with cancer in order to evoke emotion and they also showed them in the hospital setting with their parents. In this commercial, their audience was more aimed towards parents and trying to get them to donate. The language used in the commercial was talking from their perspective and what it would be like if their child couldn't do normal kid things because of cancer. This could ultimately make anyone feel sympathetic which would broaden the audience but it is aimed more towards people who have or have had children. Ethos was also incorporated in this commercial a lot. They had not only one, but four different celebrity spokesperson in their ad. These are very four different people who have different fanbases so this can help reach wider audiences. This also goes to show that this is aimed at parents but anyone can support this cause. This also helps build a relationship between the audience and this foundation as the audience will now want to support St. Jude because their favorite celebrity supports St. Jude.
